Members of the Royal Family and authors that have studied the Queen over the years have spoken about the Her Majesty’s penchant for bright colours in the past.
In a 2016 documentary called The Queen at 90, Sophie, Countess of Wessex explained: “She [the Queen] needs to stand out for people to be able to say ‘I saw the Queen’.
“Don’t forget that when she turns up somewhere, the crowds are two, three, four, ten, 15 deep, and someone wants to be able to say they saw a bit of the Queen’s hat as she went past.”
Robert Hardman, the Queen’s biographer, has also claimed that the Queen once said to him, “I can never wear beige because nobody will know who I am”.
