This is a perfect liner for a no-fuss, quick-make-up routine. It looks exactly like a pen and goes on very easily. It’s best for using close to lashes to add definition, with a little flick at the sides for a vamped-up evening look.

With its long, flexible brush, this chocolate-coloured liner feels like a piece of luxury for your make-up bag. The intense colour is great for widening eyes.

Laura Mercier  Caviar Stick Eye Colour (£20.50,

Dr Hauschka Natural Glamour Kajal Eyeliner Duo (£15.75,

This double-ended eye pencil gives twice as much colour, with one end a smoky blue and the other a subtle grey. Shades can be used separately or together to give different looks. They slide on easily, as waxes are used to give them a silky feel.

MAC Shadestick  (£13.50,

E.L.F. Studio Matte Lip Colour (£3.50,

This lip colour is fantastic value and a great addition to any make-up bag. It works like a wind-up pencil and is great for lining the lips, then using the pencil to colour in. It comes in four shades, with Tea Rose being our favourite.

It looks like being the most sought-after beauty launch of the year.

Garnier’s Miracle Skin Perfector (£9.99, Superdrug and Boots) is the first mass market BB (Blemish Balm) cream to hit the UK.

BB creams were created to protect and soothe, as well as hide blemishes, and can be used in place of foundation. So what did our readers think?

SARAH HOWE, 42: This has a good consistency and wasn’t too thick or greasy. I used it on top of moisturiser and it lasted all day. It left my skin looking luminous and attracted a lot of compliments. I give it top marks. 10/10

SANDY ANDERSON, 60: This worked well to hide thread veins and blemishes, although it was a little thicker than my usual foundation. I have oily skin, so I don’t like anything too rich. This gave great coverage, but it has to be blended in well. 7/10

KATHY ADAMS, 34: I usually use quite a heavy moisturiser under my foundation, but this cream did both jobs in one. My nose got a little shiny by the end of the day, but that’s usual for me. 8/10

KYM ROBERTS, 49: I have quite fair skin, so used the lighter colour while on holiday, and it never looked caked. It worked well to cover the blemishes. 8/10

JOAN RITCHIE, 55: I always need a cream with good coverage, but this felt light enough to allow my skin to breathe and I didn’t have to touch it up at all throughout the day. 10/10

Bobbi Brown Lip Crayon  (£19,

This jumbo-sized crayon was so popular it’s now a permanent part of the Bobbi Brown collection. You can’t beat it for ease of application and convenience, and the colour stays put for hours. Look out for Raisin Berry, a sultry brown with a hint of pink.

Maybelline Color Sensational Lip Stain (£5.99, Boots)

Some stains can fade quickly, or dry out, leaving lips feeling cracked. This is water-based and super-moisturising, so colour doesn’t fade or bleed, and it comes in four lovely shades of pink, including Tender Rose, a pale pink wash.

Urban Decay Super-Saturated High Gloss Lip Colour (£14, Debenhams)

A chunky, glossy pencil that comes in lovely metallic shades. The high gloss is moisturising, so lips don’t dry or feel sticky, and the metallic shine is really striking. We love Adrenaline, a bright pink.

MAC Pro Longwear Lip Pencil (£14,

Lip pencils are a must to prevent feathering and colour bleed, and these are creamy but with great staying power. Part of MAC’s StyleDriven collection, shades include Morning Coffee, a dark rose, and Staunchly Stylish, a soft pinky beige.

Max Factor Lipfinity Lip Tint (£6.99, Boots)

A fine applicator tip allows lip colour to be expertly applied and the water-based formula absorbs into the top layer of lips, so the matte colour stays on. Berry Burst is a great autumn shade.

By Terry Eyebrow Pencil (£21.50,

This is the very best of eyebrow pencils. At one end is the softest eyebrow colour  and at the other is a fabulous eyebrow brush; plus it comes with its own sharpener. It comes in two colours, Basic Nude and Ash Brown, and it is all you need to shape and tame brows.

Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Brow Color (£13.50, Boots)

With brows set to be big news this autumn, this fine brush tip is perfect for making brows as bold as you dare. It’s also waterproof, so there’s no danger of telltale smudges. It comes in light and medium.

Bobbi Brown  Face Blender Brush  (£33,

If you’re planning to buy just one brush, this is the one. The multi-tasker of brushes, it can be used for powder, blusher, bronzer and shimmer. A good investment.

Ecotools Six Mini Brushes (£4.99, Tesco and Superdrug)

This set of mini brushes comes in a zip-up purse, which is great for popping into your handbag. Includes eyeshadow, lipstick and concealer brushes.

Urban Decay Lash Curler (£16, House of Fraser)

This ingenious gadget curls lashes in sections, so you can curl just outer lashes to make eyes look wider. Won’t pinch. A must-have.
