Australian activewear brand P.E. Nation launches their first stand-alone ski collection with a neat trick: an augmented reality feature that let’s you try on the collection wherever you are… and whatever the temperature might be…
We might be looking down the barrel of a long Australian summer (about bloody time) but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be looking ahead to those snow-bound getaways – whether at home, or abroad. However, it can be hard to get yourself in the mood for thermal layers and water-proof pants… which is why P.E. Nation’s world-first ‘virtual changing room’ is something of a stroke of genius.
According to a press release from the always-innovative Aussie activewear brand, it’s as easy as playing with a filter on Instagram. “Functioning similarly to the augmented reality (AR) filters currently found on Instagram, the P.E Nation filter enables users to digitally trial three key pieces from the collection. Users can then tailor their look by virtually ‘wearing’ the collection; and by entering a 360-degree universe, the filter will transfer you to a P.E branded snow environment.”
I tried it out, and you have to jump on the mobile version of Instagram, and ensure your app it up to date… but then, it’s surprisingly easy to use, and definitely gets you in the mood to at least start thinking about your next ski or snowboarding adventure (COVID restrictions willing…).
Co-founder Pip Edwards said of the choice to launch this tech-enabled feature for customers, “We’re living and working within a new societal normcore on a global scale. Products are no longer limited to curated imagery and look books, but rather experiences that have augmented the way our customers interact and engage with them. Winter, for example, represents a seasonal moment of expression, an escape to the annual snow-covered pilgrimage; naturally this year with global and domestic travel bans in place, the season as we know it will be different and we wanted to ensure P.E Nation was moving with it.”
The launch for P.E. Nation’s virtual change room coincides with their first stand-alone snow collection, comprising of 15 items that will look just as good propping up the après bar as they will shooting down a black run on-mountain. The unique P.E. Nation aesthetic created by co-founders Pip Edwards and Claire Tregoning remains strong – with plenty of sports-inspired speed stripes, bold branding and colour blocking to help you stand out from the ski bunny-clad crowds, but the collection is also technically minded, too.
The range utilises 3M THINSULATE TM insulation, which is impressively made from 78% post-consumer recycled materials, the outerwear is guaranteed to keep you warm, and dry. There are the little design details that help make your days on the hill that little bit more comfortable too – like elastic stirrup on the leggings so they don’t ride up your boots, the brushed fleece linings to make the hoodies even warmer, detachable hoods for those blue bird days, and mid-layer pieces that won’t make you sweat thanks to 100% Merino wool.
Jackets range from $599 to $549, pants from $419 to $399, and base layers start at $129, AUD.
You can browse and shop the entire collection via the brand’s online store, and try on three of the hero jackets from the range via P.E. Nation’s Instagram page, here (just click on the smiley face icon to activate the filters). Like what you see? You can share your filtered snap with #SustainableInSnow and you might just get regrammed…
