Some people think Pilates is all about relaxing and lying horizontal on the mat, but the truth is – if you’re looking to make changes to your body and fitness, Pilates should feel like a workout!

One of the great things about Pilates is the way it can help you tone up all over, but particularly your core which can be tricky to target with other workouts. While there’s no ‘secret’ to flat abs (and you need to consider how you’re behaving in the kitchen just as much as the workouts you’re doing!) Pilates can be a great tool for toning your stomach.

Why? Pilates is all about teaching you to fire up and isolate your muscles. The key muscles in question are your deep core muscles (Multifidus/TVA), which act as a deep natural “corset” around the internal organs and lumbar spine. These extremely important muscles function as your prime stabilisers and their activation will encourage the abdominal wall to flatten as well as provide essential core stability.

How to get results

The transverse abdominis (TVA) is the deepest layer of your abdominal muscles, its fibres wrap around your midsection horizontally like an internal corset. When correctly engaged and strengthened the TVA cinches in your waist, lengthens your midsection and compresses the belly.

To get results you need to focus on your breathing as well as the intensity of the exercise, maintaining control, and having a regular Pilates practice because you won’t see results from lack of commitment!

Beyond what a strengthened core looks like, it will also help promote great posture, reduce back pain, and help support you through all the challenges of daily life! Give my Centr Ab Scorcher workout a try to start working your core correctly!
